Position Information

Classification Title Museum Paraprofessional/Professional FLSA Non-Exempt FTE 0.75 Minimum Qualifications

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

Art Handler providing general support for the Division of Collections and Exhibitions, specializing in art handling as follows:

Duties include art handling such as moving, installing, de-installing, packing, un-packing, and the storage of museum objects. Ensures the safe handling and movement of all types of works of art. Routine maintenance of gallery spaces and storage areas and data entry in the museum collections database as instructed. Under the supervision of the Director of Exhibitions, this position works closely with the associate curator of academic and campus engagement, registrars, and the department of education in the preparation, movement, and installation of art for University classes and special installations in the Collections Study Room and the Study Gallery. Operates equipment and tools in a safe and proper manner. Works with departmental interns as needed.

  • Knowledge of museum art handling practices.
  • Knowledge of general art handling equipment and tools.

Percentage of time 75 Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist other museum art handlers in the preparation, movement, and installation of art for special displays in the Study Gallery.


Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities

  • Enters object movement data into the collections database as required and fills out physical location forms for movement of art.

  • Other duties as assigned pertaining to art movement.
