Position Overview:

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking an energetic candidate to serve as the Food Production Corrections Industry Supervisor for the Illinois Correctional Industries located at Western Illinois Correctional Center. This candidate will supervise staff and assign work to subordinates in a food production setting. Additionally, the successful candidate will maintain production schedules as well as records in the industries shop. Furthermore, the Food Production Corrections Industry Supervisor will supervise workers in custody in the tools of the trade while making sure they learn the skills necessary to secure employment with a livable wage. Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Instructs and directs individual in custody workers in the proper use of tools, equipment and materials utilized in the Food Processing Plant.
  • Maintains master list of Earned Programs Sentence Credit earned by individual in custody workers assigned to the Food Processing Plant.
  • Coordinates the production of all orders.
  • Maintains quality control of all repair work performed.
  • Acts as staff assistant to Industry Superintendent (Public Service Administrator) in the overall operation of the Food Processing Plant.
  • Reports infractions of rules in accordance with Administrative Directives.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school or completion of an approved training course.
  • Requires two (2) years supervisory experience in a field related to the position to be filled.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in production.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience maintaining workflow in a group setting.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in inventory management.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in management of tools in a correctional setting.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in preventative maintenance of equipment.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience maintaining production schedules.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in shipping and receiving procedures.
  • Prefers forklift certification.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
