Job Description

We are seeking a Junior Software Engineering Developer to join our Land & Joint division on the ISTAR Program. (Intelligence, Reconnaissance, Target Acquisition and Surveillance) You will be working with a multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver Intelligence (ISTAR) capabilities into a fully integrated tactical network, capable of providing flexible, multi-role communications, command and control.

You will be part of an agile development team, responsible for designing, implementing and verifying software components. You will work closely with the lead engineer throughout all stages of the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, system architecture and design, implementation, testing, and maintenance.

As part of the Agile development team, you will:

  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code according to coding standards and best practices.
  • Assist with planning and coordination of feature development.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers on design, analysis, and testing.
  • Document code, processes, and workflows as needed.
  • Participate in software code reviews.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize applications with senior engineers.
  • Support verification and validation test events, including customer field trials.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry developments, tools, and technologies to advance your skills and support team growth.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

This role requires on-site work at our Ottawa office and customer locations within the National Capital Region, with flexibility to work remotely when necessary. Occasional travel may be required to support customer field trials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, C#, or C++).
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with version control systems, especially Git, for managing and collaborating on code.
  • Familiarity with some communication protocols and message exchange patterns (e.g., ZeroMQ, REST), as well as data serialization formats (e.g., protobuf, JSON).
  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming and design patterns.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
