Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Responsible for managing the education department and oversees hospital wide training and development programs.  Works collaboratively with management to ensure the learning needs of staff are met.   Advises in-house and community of health care careers and professional advancement.   Ensure compliance of training for regulatory compliance.  Participates in the strategic planning to include the educational needs of staff to enhance organization performance. Responsible for assuring that areas assigned meet the State, Medicare, TJC and other regulations required. Exhibits innovative and creative efforts of improvement for department and employees.  Regularly attends and participates as a member of operations council and other committee and meetings as assigned.  Networks with other clinical educators for the purpose of validation and seeking professional effectiveness. Directly supervises the Infection Control Nurse and employees as well as the Education/Training Coordinators.  Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education/Training:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing required.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years teaching/training experience preferred.
  • BLS and CPI instructor certified or obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Two years hospital-based experience and management development training preferred.
  • Must possess knowledge of ANA standards on Staff Development and Continuing Education, including adult principles of learning.
  • Possess and demonstrate skill in problem analysis, project management, conflict resolution, interpersonal skills, program development and oral and written presentations.
  • Computer skills including power point, excel and web-based software.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current North Carolina State Registered Nurse License
  • Current North Carolina Driver’s License
  • Current CPR and CPI Certification

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Management skills with the ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  • Able to develop and implement policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric, medical, and rehabilitative procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable State and federal regulations and JCAHO standards.
  • Ability to direct subordinates in the performance of their duties.
