Job Description

Nurse Educator – Behavioral Health Inpatient

Our client: A full-service hospital capable of handling virtually all the healthcare needs in the community. Providing services in many specialty areas including women’s and children’s health; general, cardiothoracic, vascular, orthopedic and neurological surgery; advanced endoscopy, wound care, bariatric, cardiovascular, comprehensive stroke, cancer, immune health, behavioral health, psychiatry and neurosciences, pulmonary critical care and urology.

The Position: The Nurse Educator assesses the educational needs of nursing staff, students and others to plan and deliver orientation and continuing education. Serves as a resource by mentoring staff and mentoring/evaluating clinical competencies to ensure the highest quality clinical outcomes and safety. Participates in committees to facilitate and reinforce the implementation of evidence-based care.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years in the area of Behavioral Health
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competency in clinical areas.
  • Proven ability to lead, guide and motivate staff.
  • Proficient with Epic EMR
  • Experience in medical/surgical, nursing home or related specialty.
  • Certification in applicable area of specialization preferred
  • AHA BLS and or ACLS Instructor Certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and Teaches Education Programs: Designs and runs training sessions for hospital staff, patients, and the community. Helps coworkers grow professionally through classes and hands-on learning.
  • Works with Nurse Leaders to Identify Training Needs: Teams up with nursing leadership to figure out what staff need to learn or improve on.
  • Trains New Hires: Helps new employees get settled in by creating personalized training plans, making sure they attend required sessions, and tracking their progress. Talks with nurse leaders if there are any concerns.
  • Evaluates Staff Skills: Observes nurses at work, checks patient records, and reviews quality reports to see how staff are doing. Plans training if needed to keep patient care safe and top quality.
  • Leads Training Sessions: Runs classes or one-on-one training. Prepares lesson plans and goals for staff education.
  • Supports Staff Development Plans: Works with leadership to help employees improve specific skills or areas. Tracks their progress and updates leadership on results.
  • Stays Current and Solves Problems: Looks into nursing practice issues and keeps up with the latest research to find better ways to do things.
  • Covers Shifts if Needed: Helps out during various shifts and promotes a safe environment that avoids mistakes. Gives helpful, respectful feedback during training.
  • Helps Set Care Standards: Contributes to hospital committees and groups that decide on best nursing practices. Works closely with other departments and professionals.
  • May Provide Patient Care: Occasionally cares for patients directly and helps guide staff in giving the best possible care.
  • Leads by Example: Maintains a high level of professionalism and encourages others to grow their skills. Follows and promotes hospital policies to ensure excellent care and service.
  • Focuses on Compassionate Care: Ensures patients and families feel heard, respected, and cared for in a timely, compassionate way.
  • Completes Required Training: Keeps up with all hospital and department-required education and training.
  • Performs Other Tasks as Needed: Will help with other responsibilities as required.
