Job Description

Overview:

Summer Nurse Internship will run from May 19, 2025 through July 19, 2025. Eligible Nursing Students are those graduating in December 2025, May 2026, and August 2026.

Intern provides an opportunity for nursing students to advance their knowledge and skills in providing patient care in the ambulatory setting. Interns are partnered with an RN who develops and supervises the Student Nurse Intern's experience while retaining full accountability and responsibility for the care of assigned patients and tasks. Performs basic nursing task appropriate for the age and/or development of the patients served. In addition to performing normal duties of a Medical Office Assistant, must demonstrate competency in nursing knowledge/skills generally learned/acquired before beginning the last year of a nursing program; job duties will expand as skills are learned and competencies are documented by RN partner.

Responsibilities:
  • With RN direction and supervision, performs patient care activities based on age, need and expectations of the patient.
  • Performs various nursing skills according to established standards based on patient’s plan of care and intern’s ability/learning needs
  • Assists patients in the Ambulatory setting
  • Assists with monitoring patient condition and response to medications, treatments, and therapies; takes relevant actions if any concern/question.
  • Utilizes the Student Nurse Intern learning experience to enhance and/or develop the knowledge, competence in technical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills, and the behaviors that are essential to the role of the Registered Nurse.
  • Provides support to other patient care team members by assisting with patient care, associated tasks, and clerical functions.
  • Uses various tools and techniques to communicate patient care information and enhance interpersonal skills with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Documents in the medical record consistent with guidelines and facility standards
  • Communicates pertinent clinical data and relevant changes in patient status to RN or other appropriate healthcare team members.
Qualifications:

Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA), Education: H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)

Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is $15per hour - $24.32per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
